<continued> It was while I was working for a jazz musicians manager in
West Hollywood, that I struck up a conversation with a young singer who,
of course, had metaphysics on his mind.  He told me that he knew where I
needed to go and who I needed to hear.  That night he took me to the living
room of Louise Hay.  I had never heard of her, but I loved what she had to
say.  It was there that I first heard the phrase that has stayed with me
every day, "There is nobody out there, only what you believe to be true."  I
realized then that I had found my specialty.  That night, one of the
participants asked me what I wanted to do with my life.  Without
hesitation, I said, "I am going to sit in that chair (Louise Hay's seat).
Within a years time, that is where I was. I began to work for Louise Hay
and Hay House Publishing in a clerical position.  I could have told them that
would never work out, but, I just needed an in.  One day her manager
called me into his office to inform me that my services were no longer
needed.  I was shattered ... but only for a few minutes.  When I left his
office, Louise was in the hallway and said to me, "Now you can do what
you are supposed to do."  Which was to lead groups, as well as train
teachers for the intensive trainings that we did on an annual basis as well
as to facilitate the "Hay Rides" in the park that sprang up when AIDS
became so prevalent.  These events were attended by hundreds of gay men
and their families and was a great support to so many.  At one point, I
served as personal counselor to Louise.

All through this time, I was continuing my studies in Religious Science.
Although I studied at the Hollywood Church, it was never my church home.
I searched for about a year for a place that fit who I was and who I would
become. I met a woman in one of the support groups that I facilitated, and
she suggested that I come to her church.  As it turned out, her church was
the City of Angels Church of Religious Science under the direction of the
Founding Minister, Rev. Dr. O. C. Smith.  When I walked through those
doors and heard the Sunday Morning Band, O. C.'s flawless voice, the
simple and humorous way that he taught the principles of metaphysics, I
knew that I was home.  I signed up for membership that day, and within a
year, I was teaching several classes and eventually Assistant Minister,
which I still do to this day.

Each one of these inspired individuals mentored and supported me so that I
could continue my unending passage. <end>
